Fraud Awareness During COVID-19

During times of economic uncertainty, and with a significant number of people working remotely, companies and individuals are increasingly at risk of fraud or cyberattacks. Protect yourself and be aware of scams. There are several great resources at your disposal to keep yourself and your money safe.

Regarding the upcoming Economic Impact Payments and Coronavirus Tax Relief, here are a few reminders to protect yourself from fraud.

  • The government will not ask you to pay anything up front to get this money. No fees. No charges. No nothing.
  • The government will not call to ask for your Social Security #, bank account, or credit card number.
  • Anyone who tells you they can get you they can get your money early is a scammer.
  • The IRS will not call you asking for information. Do NOT sign over your check.
  • Beware of fake emails requesting you to “update your IRS e-file”. The IRS will NOT initiate contact via email to confirm personal information.
